To fully appreciate the great fun of cycling trips, you should take care of the necessary equipment. Today, the market offers sufficient opportunities for professional bicycle seats. What model to choose, what to follow when making a purchase decision?
When is it time for a bicycle seat?
It is assumed that the basic requirement for the safe use of the seat is whether the child can sit up independently. A number of accessories effectively stabilize the position of a toddler in a bicycle seat, but sufficiently developed neck and back muscles are absolutely essential. Therefore, it is rather not recommended to use a bicycle seat before the age of 9 months. It seems that the safe margin of the lower limit is about 1.5 years, but it really depends on the individual stage of development of the little cyclist.
Above all: security!
A thoughtful and responsible purchase of a child carrier will significantly increase the comfort of driving and guarantee the childs safety. Therefore, the chosen model of a child seat must always match its weight. The most common weight limits are 15 and 22 kilograms of load capacity. Knowing your childs weight will allow you to ride in the seat safely and without unnecessary risk. Safety is guaranteed by EU approvals in this area. Before purchasing a child seat, check whether it is equipped with the European Quality Certificate EN 14344 or the TUV / GS certificate. This ensures that EU safety standards are met when it comes to the materials used, security measures or reliable assembly. Proper protection of the child will also be ensured by special, preferably five-point seat belts and a blockade that prevents them from being unfastened on their own. Properly built-up sides of the safety seat provide additional protection in the event of a fall, and the adjustable and covered footrest will prevent the foot from accidentally getting into the spokes. What else to consider when buying a bicycle seat?
One of the most important factors to consider is your babys comfort. It is worth checking if the bicycle seat has a special recess for the helmet, which significantly increases the comfort of traveling. The seat padding should be sufficiently soft and removable, which will allow for thorough cleaning, and the intuitive systems of mounting a child seat to a bicycle should ensure its comfort and speed. Undoubtedly, aesthetic issues are also important, but colors, graphic patterns or fancy shapes should not play such a large role as matters related to travel safety.
Types of car seats
Childrens bicycle seats, to put it simply, are divided into front and rear. The front seat can be mounted on the handlebars or on the bicycle frame in front of the saddle. The rear seat is attached to the rack, seat post or seat frame of the vehicle. Each of the solutions has its own advantages, thanks to which the little cyclist will be able to fully enjoy the fun of riding. The front bicycle seat is designed for slightly smaller children. It allows constant eye contact and greater control over the child, which makes it better for mobile children. The seat on the steering wheel or the front part of the frame also provides the child with a greater field of vision, and the drivers arms provide him with additional protection. On the other hand, a child seated in front is more exposed to violent gusts of wind or unpleasant collisions with insects. If you want to protect a smaller child in such a seat from the wind, we can also buy a cover glass.
The rear bicycle seat has a higher load capacity and allows you to transport slightly older children. Mounted to the seatpost or frame, it provides high shock absorption and effectively reduces shocks while driving. On the other hand, a trunk seat is usually easier to install, although of course it requires only the trunk. The rear seat for the frame or the trunk may also have an additional position adjustment option, which is perfect for unexpected naps and the need to tilt the entire structure. When buying a rear bicycle seat, however, it should be borne in mind that in this case we do not have eye contact with the child, and we must take into account some difficulties when getting in and out.
